ABOUT PILATES AND THE STUDIO

Pilates is an exercise system based on springs not weights. Where weights work from the outside and leave a bulky aesthetic, the springs work from the inside out, waking up all of the muscles in your body from your toes to your head. In Classical Pilates, you use your abdominal area and glutes to initiate every move. The springs elongate your muscles and as it lengthens, you gain incredible strength, control, flexibility and freedom of movement, while improving posture, alignment, bone density and balance and giving an evenly conditioned body. You become strong from the inside out, in a way you never have before.

Classical Pilates is the original repertoire of exercises that Joseph Pilates created. At Pilates for Life, I specialize in Classical Pilates but can also modify with some rehab style or contemporary exercises, if needed. I tailor each workout to each person's individual needs and goals. I rent from and share space with Hummingbird Pilates and the studio is fully equipped with Gratz apparatus - reformer, ladder barrel, wunda chair, electric chair and Cadillac - which Joseph Pilates designed. Gratz honored his legacy and makes everything to his original specifications and designs, so you can be assured that you are getting authentic Pilates done on the very best equipment!

BIO

Michelle is a highly experienced teacher, having been involved in the Pilates community from New York to Los Angeles, New Orleans and Atlanta. In New York, she practiced yoga regularly and was heavily involved with mind/body healing through breath work. Then she suffered a terrible back injury and was healed through Pilates. In Pilates, she found a way that incorporated everything she believed in about physical and emotional health.

For four years, she worked and trained in New York at the studio that for many years was considered to be the world's 'center' of Pilates, largely because the world renowned protege of Joseph Pilates, Romana Kryzanowska, was based there. Michelle learned directly from the teachers that trained with Romana, and it was during these four years that she cultivated her in-depth knowledge of Pilates. That, coupled with continued education, cemented Michelle's Pilates expertise.

She then operated her own Pilates business in Beverly Hills for 6 years. At the same time, she worked at some of the top Pilates studios in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, as well as working with rehab clients for physical therapists and chiropractors. Michelle then moved South for a few years and worked privately with clients in New Orleans and Atlanta before returning home to L.A.

Michelle is proud to say that many of her clients have experienced great changes in their bodies very quickly while working out with her. Whether it be losing inches, healing back, hip and knee problems or strengthening a weak core, Michelle's focus and dedication to her client's goals provide results in a short period of time.

Michelle is a miracle worker!!! I have suffered from chronic low back pain for over a decade and have seen several doctors, PT's, chiropractors, and personal trainers and NO ONE has been able to figure out the cause of my pain, let alone teach me how to prevent the pain from starting in the first place. Within the first two minutes of our introduction session, Michelle was able to pinpoint the root cause of my pain and we got to working on addressing it. Within a few sessions, my pain was gone. It's been several months, and the pain is STILL gone. Michelle has changed my life, not to mention my body... I'm losing inches, my stomach has flatten, my muscles are toning and most importantly...I can move my body without fear of injury.

Michelle's attention to detail and eagle eye on form has made the world of difference. She knows her stuff and I feel so lucky I get to work with her.
